Therapeutic neurotoxin treatment for jaw clenching, bruxism, TMJ pain, and chronic headache
Dr. Innes performs procedures at three locations. We will have confirmed your specific location verbally at your appointment. If you're unsure, text us before you come.
The masseter is the large chewing muscle on either side of the jaw. Injecting neurotoxin here is one of the most versatile and underutilized treatments we offer — and one of the most satisfying for patients who have struggled with jaw-related symptoms for years.
Insurance will not cover Botox for migraine when performed by a dermatologist. If insurance coverage is your priority, you should see a neurologist or pain management specialist who can bill and document this appropriately. Dr. Innes is happy to refer you in that direction if that's the right path for you.
For patients who want to pursue this out of pocket — whether because they don't meet insurance criteria, prefer not to navigate that process, or simply want to get started sooner — Dr. Innes offers it at $11/unit.
The standard FDA-approved migraine protocol involves injecting approximately 155 units across 31 fixed sites around the head, neck, and shoulders. Dr. Innes takes a different approach.
In his experience, a significantly abbreviated treatment targeting your specific problem areas often produces meaningful improvement — without the cost, time, and needle pokes of the full protocol. Rather than following a fixed map, Dr. Innes will evaluate where your headaches originate, where you carry tension, and what your primary symptoms are, and prioritize those areas first.
If your initial treatment helps but you want more coverage, there's no reason you can't return for additional units or locations. The goal is to find the minimum effective treatment for your situation — not to follow a protocol for its own sake.
Small doses of neurotoxin are injected across targeted sites in the forehead, temples, scalp, back of the head, neck, and/or upper shoulders — interrupting the pain signaling pathways and muscle tension patterns involved in headache generation.
